Tonight the Famous Buried Tulsa 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Time Capsule To Be Excavated

Tonight will see the unveiling of the famous 1957 Plymouth Belvedere, buried in Tulsa, Oklahoma 50 years ago. It was even buried with ten gallons of gas back then, just in case the internal combustion engine became obsolete by 2007. The car was excavated from its concrete tomb earlier today, under the Tulsa County Courthouse, covered in plastic and, of course, layers of mud.

This ought to be interesting. The story will be all over the Internet shortly, no doubt, but you can see it live on a webcsast at KOTV here at 7pm CST today (6/15/07).

From what I understand, it

From what I understand, it was buried in 1957 as part of Tulsa's semicentennial (50 years), so it would make sense to do things in increments of 50. I've also read where Tulsa buried a Plymouth Prowler in 1997 (centennial), so it might be one of that city's quirks.

That's great but...

Why not wait 100 years instead of just 50?
