See snarkerati for complete top 50 list.

Considering the crap the movie industry produces it was heartening to find this list. Perhaps I just like dystopian movies, but the above list shows that some of the public has some taste! Though I must admit I wasn't overly impressed with Minority Report.

Here are a few of my own personal favourites from the top 50.

11. Sleeper (1973) (Directed by Woody Allen)

14. Twelve Monkeys (1995) (Directed by Terry Gilliam)

20. Akira (1988) (Directed by Katsuhiro Otomo)

41. Soylent Green (1973) (Directed by Richard Fleischer)

42. I Robot (2004) (Directed by Alex Proyas)

43. Logan’s Run (1976) (Directed by Michael Anderson)

brave new reading

I know what you mean. I too read it as a kid and had to break through a mental barrier about a quarter of the way through. It's all the future slang that is thrown in and has to be figured out from the context. After that, it is a thoroughly nasty piece of work, and far too close to home. Same with the other classics, 1984 and Brave New World, they are as interesting now as they were 30 years ago when I first read them. Am surprised there hasn't been a good film made of Brave New World - I vaguely remember a made-for-TV movie - although Logan's Run has many features of the book. Being a child with the attention span of a rabid flea, when I attempted to read A Clockwork Orange, I think I may have boiled some brain cells. I was way to young to have even thought about reading that book, and to this day I've never picked it up again :) Great list of the films that make you think! Thanks! Come and Read between my lines
