Do you have difficulty like me in keeping your grammar straight in French?

I've been struggling with French for the longest time and I still can't say I have a firm hold on the rules of this wonderful language.

For example, do you say "Et tu ?" or  "Et toi ?"

Is it "Il est un ami" or "C’est un ami"?
