Consumer technology has to be cool to succeed - which is why many advertising companies try to produce cool adverts for them - unfortunately though, advertising companies are seldom cool and we end up with extremely embarrassing adverts. For people who weren't around back in the '80s, seeing these commercials is going to be hilarious... the huge Commodore computer, the big hair and shiny aerobics tights, etc. And Microsoft trying to do rap in a commercial... what were they thinking?!

You are right, these ads may be funny just because they are 20 years old for people who have seen them then. But what about people who were not there then? Perhaps this post is for them. Nonetheless , thanks for your comments, Idlewind.

Yeah, those ads are pretty funny... but some are from over 20 years ago, so they are funny for that reason alone. Having women in aerobics outfits and big hair hawking telephones wasn't so far fetched back in the '80s (when I'm assuming that commercial was made).
