Top 10 Ways the U.S. is Already a Socialist Country

Top 10 Ways the U.S. is Already a Socialist Country

Socialism defined: "a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole." Source.

There has been a lot of whining and complaining by Republicans and conservatives about how Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama wants to steal from you and "redistribute the wealth" and turn this former Constitutional republic into a Socialist country.

What those whiners and complainers have forgotten, mostly because they want to bring tyranny to this country wrapped in an American flag and carrying a cross, is that in many ways, the United States of America is already the United Socialist States of America.

Now, before those Republicans and other right-wingers get their undies bunched up, I will show the top ten ways we have come to live in the U.S.S.A.

  1. Our American manufacturing and technology jobs have spread to Asia, Indonesia, and Mexico.
  2. Our taxes and the blood of our own offspring have been spread all over the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, with plans to do it again in Iran, Syria, North Korea, and so on.
  3. Our formerly living wages have been sent overseas with our jobs or depressed beyond recognition by the hiring of millions of illegal immigrants who will work for almost nothing.
  4. Our savings and retirement accounts have been destroyed and given to the same people on Wall Street who are now profiting from the short market and bailouts.
  5. Our involuntary taxes continue to be spread to other countries in the name of "foreign aid" even though we cannot afford to feed our own people.
  6. Our health care costs now exceed our ability to pay for it, yet millions of illegal immigrants and other people who don't pay into the system get free or cut-rate medical care.
  7. Our income has been given to oil companies, who continue to report record profits at our expense while still receiving corporate welfare subsidies.
  8. Our children's financial future has already been mortgaged and given to wealthy individuals and grossly inefficient corporations, through an unpopular and unwanted Congressional bailout. Note that the bailouts resulted in the government acquiring private corporations, which is the very definition of Socialism.
  9. Our money is devalued daily by the Federal Reserve, where the printing presses run continually with nothing to back it except the wages of average Americans, and which is owned almost entirely by private foreign banking corporations
  10. The money that is "loaned" to the government by the private foreign banks results in new debt, which means that the interest payments that must be paid come straight out of the pockets of the American people in form of increasingly higher taxes.

The wealth of our country has already been taken from the producers and given to the non-producers. While the Republicans continue to claim that President Barack Obama wants to "take" our wealth and "redistribute" it, they have completely ignored what has taken place over the past 95 years and which has accelerated under the last eight years of Republican George W. Bush in the White House. Republican presidential candidate John Sidney McCain III, who has voted with Bush 90% of the time over the past nearly eight years has shown that he is going to continue the same policies.

There is only one candidate with nearly three decades of support for Socialist policies and that candidate is NOT Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

If you like Socialism, now that the past has been shown to you, you can cast your vote for McCain/Palin on November 4th. Otherwise, you have the chance to vote for a presidential candidate who has at least shown that he is willing to listen to us. That should give you at least some hope.

For those who still insist the United States is a capitalist system, let me ask you: how can you have a capitalist system without capital? The U.S. government and Wall Street have been operating in the red for years. Ownership of the capital that makes the U.S. capitalist has been transferred to foreign countries, like China.

So, no, more of the same is not going to help us dig out of this hole. McCain is McSame and will not be getting my vote.

That's right...just keep

That's right...just keep calling everything "opinions" and dismissing out of hand everything I write. That way you'll never have to respond to anyone pointing out your ignorance and misinformation. It's a (not-so) clever strategy, but it makes you look like a fool. I guess you find nothing factually inaccurate with what I wrote. But just in case, we can do a little exercise. Let's try this one baby-step at a time: Fact - The "Great Society" was a product of Democrat President, LBJ. He was not a Republican. Your response? Fact - Barack Obama has proposed sending $50 billion/year in taxpayer revenues to Africa. Obama is not a Republican. Your response? I'll stop there. I don't want you to hurt yourself by thinking of too many responses at once. *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

A Type of Socialism

If the means of production and accumulation of wealth is taken from the producers and redistributed to the non-producers at the government level, that may not be THE definition of Socialism, but it is A definition of Socialism, sort of like American English is not quite the same as the Queen's English. I think what those who call Barack Obama a Socialist are ignoring is that the people in this country are the producers and our work product and wealth are being confiscated from us by the government (which is another way of saying "by force, under threat of violence") and given to persons (both human beings and those artificial entities called corporations). If the United States is still a representative, Constitutional republic (although I believe the freshness date on that package expired long ago), then people not corporations should own Congress and there should be no taxation without representation. If I decide that I don't want a significant portion of my work product being confiscated for use in a manner with which I have serious reservations, I should be able to say "no" and not participate. Unfortunately, what would likely happen is some very unpleasant men with automatic weapons would pay me a visit in the middle of the night and I would be dragged in front of an unsympathetic judge and ignorant jury who would then stick me in a place with steel bars and issue me a dance card and a pack of condoms. Such is the reality today. JOIN XOMBA IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD!

still looks like corporatism

hey jd, I still don't see how any of your ten qualify as socialism under the definitions given in http://www.xomba.com/do_americans_understand_what_socialism_means Socialism is the wrong name - the US is a corporate autocracy. The fact that so many of the things you list do nothing to help the average American, but they do help corporations (even if it is to make profits abroad) and they do keep control. Perhaps the oligarchs have decided the average first world person is too wealthy (was too wealthy) to be easily controlled. Getting rid of every piece of red tape and setting corporate taxes at zero will still do nothing to change the imbalances in global wealth. here in Thailand many people work for $100 a month, an average wage is about $200-$300 a month. In neighbouring Cambodia wages are even lower. That's why the screwdriver factories have gone from the US (and Japan and Europe). This is when governments (if they are not a complete waste of time and space) can do something to help their citizens adjust - not make things worse. Money for your Thoughts - join now OWO-BV

So I should now be required to prove a negative?

I wrote an article. You rebutted my article with your OPINION. You now expect me to prove your opinion wrong? That's called trying to prove a negative and really just a waste of my time because it is YOUR opinion. How about you give me something in the way of...I don't know...evidence to support your opinion for me to rebut? That's the way you operate though, Publius. You render your opinions like cows do their business and anyone who doesn't agree with you is an idiot. Well, too bad for you I'm neither an idiot nor do I have time to play your silly games. Here's an idea: Instead of

Here's an idea: Instead of dismissing every one of my corrections to your inaccurate portrayals of history and current events as merely "opinions," why don't you point out my errors and set things straight with "empirical evidence" of your own? What I gave you in my first comment was a rebuttal and corrections to your misleading and wrong "information". What I received in response was a tap-dance around those rebuttals and corrections and an attack on my "youthful anger". You claim to be this almighty debater and seeker of truth and knowledge, yet you rarely answer questions or debate any points. You simply attack the person and dismiss everything that's said as "opinion" - even the facts. And despite your claims that nobody ever produces "empirical evidence" to support their arguments (which I have done many, many, many times), you rarely provide any supporting evidence of your own - except the opinions of others (like AlterNet). So, if you would/could, Jim...I'd like you to point out exactly which "opinions" of mine were incorrect. If you cannot do so, then I will assume that you have no rebuttal and that you have accepted the corrections I've made to your flawed understanding of what is. *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

The new President

I will support anyone who is elected President, because he will be my President for at least the next four years. Unlike others who never even had second thoughts to insult and offend the sitting President, I am American and will defend and respect my country and my government, even when I disagree. Another opinion expressed by the Sour Grapes Right

Um, maybe people are voting for Barack Obama because he is believed to be a better choice for president, certainly better than John McCain. Answer me this, lmorovan. When November 5th arrives and Barack Obama is declared the winner of the election, are you going to offer your full support to your new president or are you going to continue to sit on the sidelines and snipe at him? Even if John McCain by some minor miracle is elected, I will pledge my energy and support to helping make this country better. JOIN XOMBA IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD!

No, what you have to offer is still opinions

Whatever, Publius. There is what you believe to be correct based on your worldview and there is everything else. Since you lack both empirical evidence or first-hand knowledge to rebut anything that I write as an article, you are left with an opinion. I am empathic enough to be able to read energy from a given group of words. What you have is anger, exasperation, and a strong wonderment about why most people don't agree with what you have to say since you are clearly in the right. It may not fit into your worldview--and that is fine--but words have energy. Add that energy into the vocabulary you select to express your opinion and you have what I wrote about the energy you are subconsciously displaying for all the world to see. As for the rest of what you write, Xomba is a writing COMMUNITY. For the most part, the idea is to work together and be supportive of people who participate here. Yes, I do vigorously defend myself when my character is called into question by certain individuals here, but the overwhelming majority of my comments are expressed to add value to the original article. Take from that what you will, Publius, but you do not control me nor can you influence me. I don't live for want of your opinion...well, I've said it before so I'll not say it again here. Obama my donkey

No one in his right mind would ever vote for Obama and his defeating, socialist agenda. People are voting against Bush out of sheer revenge. But then, likely the remedy will be worse than the illness, and likely will kill the patient. But who cares, as long as it is against Bush, they would vote for Osama if necessary. Go figure. Well, those are nice

Well, those are nice rebuttals. I'm glad to see that you are capable of defending your hideously inaccurate understanding of history and current events. I'm not sure what my running or not running for office has to do with your lack of accurate knowledge, but it's good to know that you don't care about my "opinions". Are you sure you know the definition of an "opinion"? And I'm just curious...what exactly have you done here lately that shows your ability to "work together" and your demonstration of "people skills"? Congeniality is not my intent when correcting people who lie and mislead their ignorant readers with rubbish. P.S. - I'm not "angry". I actually get a good hearty laugh out of the nonsense you post. How could I not? *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.
