Top 5 Essential Wardrobe Items
posted October 8, 2009 - 6:42amIt is not the most challenging task to look professional without burning your pockets. There are some essential items of clothing every woman needs to have in her wardrobe to enable her to achieve the right looks.
Below are a few must-have’s in my own wardrobe, which never failed to assist me in achieving the right looks before I head to work every morning. They are in a random order as I cannot decide which is more important!
A pair of black, long, soft-fabric, (slightly) boot-cut pants
This is the most versatile pair of pants I have in my wardrobe. It goes with literally anything – white tops, blue tops, grey tops, ruffled tops, lacy tops and the list goes on. Not only does it look formal, it looks very sophisticated as well. The reason it has to be boot-cut is simply because a boot-cut with a slight flare at the bottom never really goes of the fashion, does it? The fact that it is made of soft fabric also gives it a touch of femininity and allure without overdoing it. The movement of the soft fabric at the boot-cut bottom as you walk makes the overall look of the pants ultra chic!
This pair of pants is suitable for all occasions – in the office or the occasional cocktail sessions with colleagues after the office hours.
A black, lined, fitted blazer
When I couldn’t think of what to pair my top with in the morning, this blazer would automatically be the answer.
This blazer looks stunning even on its own. It is fitted and fully lined with a champagne-coloured fabric on the inside. Very subtle but again, very sophisticated. It looks smart with any tops, skirts or pants. The length of the blazer is perfect as it is just slightly below the waist, so it looks very modern. I can wear it buttoned or unbuttoned, depending on the kind of looks I want to achieve. When unbuttoned and paired with the right top inside, it reflects trendiness and confidence without looking sloppy. When buttoned, it makes one look businesslike, yet youthful. This is definitely a must-have.
Various types and colours of scarf's and pashmina's
I have a fetish for scarf's and pashmina's. I use them often as my accessory. They are a good investment for my wardrobe because they give colours to my sometimes otherwise monotonous outfit, while keeping it formal and minimal. I can also be creative with the ways to wear them - sometimes around my neck, sometimes just drape them over my shoulders... Whichever way I wear them, they certainly do not look tacky or over the top.
A boat-neck, waist-fitted top
Sometimes when I wanted to look more relaxed, I would put on my boat-neck brown/black top. It has ¾ sleeves with fitted waistline. I love it! Although very simple, it makes me feel very womanly as it really enhances all my natural curves and gives the illusion of a small waist. I regard this an essential item because I believe every woman should have a simple top for work, which does not require too much fussing-over. The boat-neck is a differentiation itself, thus it needs no further accessories to dress it up.
Lots of different ear-rings
Did I tell you I adore ear-rings? I adore ear-rings because they make a huge difference to any clothes one wears! I have all kinds of ear-rings. Different ear-rings of different shapes and sizes - you name it, I have it. Ear-rings always spice up the overall appearance of a person. They make one stand out and bring out the personality of the wearer. I can be wearing a black top with a pair of black pants and look chic and formal. However, as soon as I add on a pair of quirky metallic dangling ear-rings, my looks instantly change. My looks become more without too much. It makes chic become tres chic. If there is one thing that is totally inexpensive to invest in as an addition to your wardrobe, trust me – ear-rings are definitely the way to go.
