For those of you who are hungry for more mouth watering reality TV, have no fear; the recent crowning of this season’s ‘Top Chef Winner’ promises not to be the end of the popular Bravo series, Top Chef.
This season’s Top Chef Winner, Hung Huynh, 29, might have only maintained his competition status through his delectable appetizer hamachi, his unwavering attention to detail never went unnoticed by the judges just the same. Huynh, Massachusetts born, now Las Vegas resident, made no apology for his uncontrollable excitement when told that he could now call Chicago the home of his Top Chef Winner hat in this week’s Top Chef Season finale. "I am so excited!" Huynh exclaimed. "I worked so hard to get here and prove myself…I'm speechless, but I'm sure you'll hear more from me later."
Huynh now has $100,000 to invest in his culinary career, which will ultimately prove to be a straightforward task with an upcoming feature in Food & Wine magazine, an appearance on Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, and a gourmand dream tour of the French Alps, all gracing the pages of his newly polished resume. The bragging rights attached to such credentials go without saying.
This season’s final challenge proved to be a bit too challenging for Top Chef fan favorite and kitchen domineer, Casey Thompson, as she left her pork belly in the oven a bit too long, leaving a bad taste in the judges mouth. Thompson, confident in her overall culinary abilities, was quick to remind her fellow competitors that she was ‘kicking their ass for a while”.
Huynh might have made numerous mistakes throughout this season of Top Chef; his win boiled down to a delightfully prepared Asian-inspired 3-course meal consisting of hamachi, Vietnamese-style prawns, and duck. When asked to prepare a surprise 4th course with very little time to spare, Huynh chose to abandon his Asian roots and prepare a "perfect" molten chocolate cake with raspberries and crème fraîche. Initially, the judges made it clear that such an average dessert would not likely put Huynh over the top, nor could it complete his meal; nonetheless, the dinner bell rang finding the judges eating more than Huynh’s delectable dessert, but eating their own words as well. The only thing left to offer was kudos to the official Top Chef Winner, Hung Huynh.
While it remains a mystery as to what Huynh plans to do with his $100,000 winnings, Top Chef Fans have a final chance to see Huynh and previous fan-favorites on Bravo’s series reunion next Wednesday.
