Top Ten Summer Songs
posted August 18, 2008 - 10:05amGet your CD burning equipment or MP3 player out and prepare this summer’s playlist. Welcome to the top ten summer songs of 2008.
1-“School’s Out” by Alice Cooper
Do I even need to explain myself? The best part of the summer for students is that there are, basically, no responsibilities. School’s out, baby. School’s out.
2- “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night
Every time I hear this song, I want to get up and shake my ass. Jeramiah was a bullfrog! This song also makes me think of one of my favorite summer movies: The Big Chill.
3- “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison
So I’m biased—I happen to be a brown-eyed girl myself. But this song will always be one of those classics that everyone and their mother can sing along to. And what better time to sing along to a great song than while you’re soaking up the rays?
4- “Summer Lovin’” on the Grease soundtrack
John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John will always be remembered, in some capacity, as Danny and Sandy. This song is the memorial to those inevitable summer flings that happen (at least once) to all of us.
5- “Surfin’ USA” by Beach Boys
Wax up your surfboard (or wakeboard, wakeboard, or skimboard) and prepare yourself for a killer day soaking up the sun and enjoying the water. Be sure to use this song as your soundtrack.
6- “Summer of ‘69” by Bryan Adams
Again, with the summer romance! But, it’s understandable. There are countless opportunities for romantic encounters during the summer months. You get to see the one you’ve got a thing for barely clothed, and . . . well, that’s a big enough reason for me to love the summer!
7- “Low Rider” by War
Now, I know that cruising through town is something that, in most parts of the country, hasn’t been the “cool” thing to do for decades. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t have this awesome song to play while you’re driving to work or the pool, right?
8- “Hot Fun in the Summertime” by Sly and the Family Stone
When you and your neighbors or friends are getting ready for a cook out and making margaritas or mojitas, this is the song to play. It will get your groove on while chilling you out for a killer evening with good people.
9- “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas and the Papas
During the summer months, this song makes me happy that I’ve got the sun shining. There’s no reason for me to wish for better surroundings when the weather’s this gorgeous!
10- “Summer in the City” by Lovin’ Spoonful
If you are experiencing summer in a big city, why not listen and sing along to a song about just that? Another classic rock favorite that celebrates my favorite time of year.
