Toy Safety Database

posted June 24, 2008 - 1:09am
Toy Safety Database

Article about toy safety, focusing on a new website created to help consumers make safe choices. Includes a lists of both toys with high lead content and those that are lead-free, links to recalled toys, a link to a site where toys are rated by environmental groups (it includes a database of over 1,200 toys). The article itself is a good introduction to current issues and concerns surrounding toy safety and methods of reducing risk given the lack of thorough federal intervention and regulations. There is still a great deal of controversy regarding lead in toys; on one side, there is the argument that no amount of lead is safe, while a toxicologist in the article claims to never have treated a child for exposure to lead solely from a toy.
