Easy and cheap meals from Trader Joe's (not an ad!)

This is in no way an attempt to advertise for Trader Joe's and I am not affiliated with the store in any way. I just want to share some of the magical (and inexpensive) deliciousness I have discovered there.

1. Artisan bread: half-cooked and you finish it off at home in the oven. Delicious when paired with a fall soup like pumpkin or lentil. A little high in calories though, so be moderate.

2. Tandoori naan, frozen: This is almost as good as you get at the take-out Indian place and a whole heck of a lot cheaper. Again, practive moderation.

3. Cuban style canned beans: I fry up some garlic and onion, then add to these beans and let simmer for an hour or two. A great lunch with some rice or a whole-wheat tortilla.

4. Trader Joe's Indian Fare: These come in the dry-foods aisle. They cost about a dollar and are totally delicious. Madras lentil is my favorite. We usually heat and serve with a side of spinach and some of the froxen naan or rice.

Seattle

Ha! I live in Seattle too. you are probably right though, they are at least a dollar and change. Why do you hate Seattle?

RE: Trader Joe's

I don't think the indian cuisine can compete with NYC, where competition really drives the price down. Check out the cheese selection if you are having friends over. They have a great herbed goat cheese which is about 3 dollars here in Seattle. Also, the Mediterrainean hummus with oil and pine nuts is a great deal. And of course, the wine is not to be missed.

Trader Joe's recently opened

its first store in NYC and I swear I've never heard people having so much anticipation for the opening of any store. People raving about it from other locations they'd been to, etc. I'll have to check out the Indian stuff, though there are a half million cheap Indian restaurants in NYC 8 blocks from Trader Joe's. I want to try the Three-Buck Chuck, too.

i think the indian fare

i think the indian fare packets are $2 at the trader joe's i shop at in seattle wa. of course EVERYTHING is more expensive in seattle wa. *hates seattle wa*
