Easy and cheap meals from Trader Joe's (not an ad!)
posted November 1, 2006 - 1:39pmThis is in no way an attempt to advertise for Trader Joe's and I am not affiliated with the store in any way. I just want to share some of the magical (and inexpensive) deliciousness I have discovered there.
1. Artisan bread: half-cooked and you finish it off at home in the oven. Delicious when paired with a fall soup like pumpkin or lentil. A little high in calories though, so be moderate.
2. Tandoori naan, frozen: This is almost as good as you get at the take-out Indian place and a whole heck of a lot cheaper. Again, practive moderation.
3. Cuban style canned beans: I fry up some garlic and onion, then add to these beans and let simmer for an hour or two. A great lunch with some rice or a whole-wheat tortilla.
4. Trader Joe's Indian Fare: These come in the dry-foods aisle. They cost about a dollar and are totally delicious. Madras lentil is my favorite. We usually heat and serve with a side of spinach and some of the froxen naan or rice.
