Travel Insurance Can Protect You When You Travel.

In the excitment of making travel plans, it is easy to overlook the importance of considering the unexpected.  If you have a sudden illness or accident, while travelling, the costs can be considerable.  If you are outside the United States, the prospect of being ill or hurt in an unfamiliar place can be alarming quickly turning a dream vacation into a disaster.

Your home insurance and specialized credit cards may provice some coverage.  Read over any policy you have and understand fully whether that insurance will cover your specific needs.  Start this process early so you will have time to investigate and get the best bargain.

If you decide you need to purchase travel insurance, shop around.  There is considerable difference between what coverage carriers provide and also their costs.  Ensure that the policy you decide on covers everything your want, which should include coverage for medical emergencies, trip cancellation, trip interruption, life insurance, lost, stolen, damaged or delayed baggage, trip interruption, etc.  Make sure you understand the procedures you need to follow in case of an emergency.  If possible you want to avoid any up-front medical costs.

Make a list of all your travel information, including your travel insurance policy number, and a contact number in case of emergency.  Leave a copy of this with a close friend whom you can contact in case you lose your list.  If you have a medical emergency, you need to contact your travel insurance company immediately.  Keep a detailed record of any up-front cost you may have, including original bills.

Once you make a report to your insurance carrier, you will be sent some forms.  The faster you fill these out , the faster your claim will be processed.  Fill out the forms carefully and make sure you include details about any other insurance plans that you may have.

Travel insurance is just one more way of ensuring that you and your family can enjoy your vacation with peace of mind.

As soon as you know you are going to travel abroad, consult your doctor about any vaccinations that may be necessary.  This is especially important if you are travelling to Africa, South America, The Middle East, And South-east Asia.  One of the vaccinations that is essential for travellers, in these areas, as well as in Mexico, is the one for hepatitis.  Other vaccines may be necessary as well, depending on the specific areas you are to visit.
