Winner of the Pritzker prize for architecture, Professor Hans Hollein, designed the Do & Co Hotel in Vienna, Austria.
Professor Hans Hollein is highly respected for the courage with which he combined marble and plastic and the refinement he applies even to the smallest details. Do & Co, which is part of the international restaurant and catering chain of the same name and famous for the exquisite cuisine by Attila Dogudan, is one of the shining examples of architecture by this architect, artist and pioneer of postmodernism.
It’s interesting to note that Haas Haus was used by Philipp Haas & Sons as a furniture and interior design showroom before Hans Hollein’s modernization of the structure in 1990 with heavy use of metal and glass fittings.
Located right next to St. Stevens Cathedral, the hotel offers extravagant views over Stephansplatz, Graben and Kaertnerstrasse. The upper levels are dominated by the restaurant, the roof terrace and the private pavilion – a temple of fine food for up to 12 persons.
The interior design by the Dutch firm FG Stijl boasts vocabulary of solid natural oak wood and stone, while the furniture and accessories draw on a wide range of modernist styles.
