True Romance Comes in Unique Packages
posted April 24, 2009 - 12:09pmI adore strawberries. Spring time means the stores are filled with luscious fresh strawberries. Did I say I love strawberries? The truth of the matter is that I love any kind of berry. Give me Blackberries, Marion berries, Raspberries, fresh in a bowl, cooked in a pie, cobblers, jams, preserves, or served in any manner.

About twelve years ago, on occasion, my body starting having these strange and very painful symptoms that caused great distress. Through trial and error I discovered that any kind of little seeds or large amounts of fiber were the cause of the problem that would completely affect my life in a negative way and even force me onto a clear liquid diet and bed rest.
I learned my lesson quickly as I caved to the temptation to eat “just one or two” of the tempting spring fresh berries when they would be served to me. It just wasn’t worth the two or three weeks of suffering I would endure. As life progressed I would carefully “not” choose the berries when served any kind of fruit salad and berries were taken off my grocery shopping list.
True romance comes in the most unique packages. I am convinced if we would just look around us and the things our loved ones do for us day in and day out, we would be much more satiated and content with the romance, little acts of tenderness, and the love available to us in our lives.
Last week my husband went grocery shopping for our household. As I sat at the computer working I heard the door close and bags being carried to the kitchen. He usually comes into the office to talk before attempting any kind of organization of putting groceries away.
This day I had that sense that something was up. You know that feeling that something is going on. I paid it no mind figuring he was just doing something in the kitchen that I probably did not want to know anyway.
I heard some noises but had no clue what he was doing. A few minutes later he appeared in our office with a gift in his hands. He is the most handsome of men, inside and out, and that look of love that he gets on his face is enough to make my toes curl. In his hands was a bowl. Handing me the bowl I was overwhelmed with the feelings of love and true romance from this man God has placed in my life.
The bowl contained two strawberries. Two very large strawberries that were almost the size of small apples. Two very pale, almost white, and very naked strawberries. My husband, my best friend, had thought of me at the store and took the time to find the largest strawberries he could find, then sneaking home and into the kitchen he had taken the time to peel those strawberries so I could enjoy the flavor once more. They tasted better than any strawberries I have ever eaten. At moments it was hard to swallow them for the tears that were caught in my throat at this act of love.
Instant heart flutters. Warmth coursing through my entire body. My heart swelled to the point of feeling as if it grew twice its size. Unique tailor made true romance. Even today as I write this the feelings I had at that moment flood back over me bringing another wave of contentment.
How many times do we miss the true romance in our lives? I pray I never take for granted or fail to recognize those inspiring satisfying moments that my lover, my husband, my best friend is gracing my life with.
Today, I pray that your eyes may be opened to any and all moments of love, any romantic gestures, all tenderness and grace that is available to you, and that you have many opportunities to do the same for those you say “I love you” to.
