True Scary Stories

My first scary story begins in a small Northeast Tennessee town where there is an old small man made rural road tunnel.

The scary legend is that several years ago a local woman's baby died in the community. It is told that late at night if you are in the tunnel with the car turned off that one can hear a woman scream. It is also rumored that you can hear a a baby cry.It is told hat the woman is looking for the dead baby. The big story was that one could hear all of this more clearly on Halloween night.

On Halloween night for several years there has been lots of traffic in that infamous tunnel, and the later the better. Many people in the local area claim to have heard the screams and cries over the years. Most of these folks have been teenagers, and in Northeast Tenn. sometimes,on Halloween night, there could a certain amount of imbibing in that tunnel!

Some claim to have seen the woman and the baby along the road late at night before entering the tunnel. However,I have been in the tunnel late at night with the lights, and motor turned off,and have never heard anything unusual. I was sober while there, and I must admit, was a bit nervous while listening.I was disappointed that all I could hear was the nearby creek's running water.

I suppose the legend is possible. It certainly has brought some small fame to Hawkins County,Tenn. where I was raised, and there has been more than one story written about the legend in our local papers. It also gives future teens, and other folks something to explore on a late Halloween night to see if they can hear the woman scream, and the baby cry!

Hospital Scary Stories

The hospital where I once worked had a resident ghost. This friendly ghost was found in the Nursing Home part of the hospital. Both patients and employees claim to have seen her.She was dressed in a light blue dress, snow white hair, and had a shawl over her shoulders.

Some of the residents of the home were able to speak.Thet would tell the employees that a little woman came in their room and stood over the bedside. Some would be extremely upset over the visits, and would tell the workers to keep her out of their rooms. Some were accustomed to her visits, and didn't mind.

I worked the grave yard shift for several years. I actually saw the lady going down a hallway one night, and she disappeared into a room. I thought she was one of the patients. When we went to turn the patient in that room the woman I saw was gone. My fellow employee said,"that was our little ghost lady"! Most of them had seen her before. now I believed.

No one really ever knew who she was ,but it was assumed that she might have been a former resident of the home, and she was coming back to take care of her fellow residents. Others thought one of her relatives may have died here ,and she was coming back to look for them.Whoever she was she certainly caused some spooky excitement late at night at the Nursing Home. When the home closed and the residents were transferred to other facilities in the area our "little ghost lady went with them, and was never seen again!
