Is it Truth or Opinion

Is it Truth or Opinion

We all have something to say, and it seems we all believe what we have to say is more important than what others have to say. Opinions on the whole are good, as long as they are not put forward as truth. Truth is an incontrovertible fact. Opinion on the other hand, can sometimes be based on fact or more likely, on how we perceive the facts. More often than not, opinions are based more on our personal experiences, our likes and dislikes and have no basis in truth at all. Opinion can be charged with emotion. Truth is based on the cold, hard facts. We have all heard the saying, “The truth hurts”, that is because truth is based on fact and does not take its audiences feelings into consideration. Truth can be uncomfortable and sometimes our opinions are formulated to mask the reality of truth.

Opinions can change as more facts are learned, the truth never changes, what is true today will be true tomorrow.

It is important that we are able to distinguish between truth and opinion. Truth is a verifiable fact, everything else is an opinion.

well then you need to be

Forgive me please, my mistake.

Well, then you need to be

Well, then you need to be more clear about the definitions you're using. There are many variations for "true" - which is what I was addressing in my comment. "Truth" and "true" are not the same, so it would help if you defined each according to the context of their use in this article. Who is Publius? Join Xomba and get PAID to write - CLICK HERE!

What is true today

I think the key here is to understand the definition of truth and opinion. This article was written with the dictionary definition of these words in mind.

The difference between truth and fact

This article was written with the dictionary definitions of truth and opinion in mind.

exactly

taking your example of gravity. When Newton came out with his Theories of Gravity - they were taken and proven to be fact (yes we all know that theories are just the best possible answers 'til someone can prove them wrong). Then Einstein proved Newton wrong with his Theory of Relativity. Now some scientists are saying that Einstein was wrong. So, I would say there are no facts, only theories and opinions.

"never a true word said"

You tell me.

incontrovertable fact

or not open to question or dispute. If someone where to say "never a true word said" , would it be truth or opinion?

The difference between truth and fact

Reading this article, IMO you could substitute the word "fact" wherever you wrote "truth" and be more accurate. Truths are something elevated to something more Universal, such as gravity. You may not "believe" in gravity, but, if you jump off of a tall building, you will go splat just the same. In contrast, I can disbelieve someone's "fact" and still be correct. People once believed that the Earth was flat and the Sun revolved around the Earth, both of which were decreed as "facts" by the Church and it was made a crime to question them. Once some courageous people challenged the "facts" and presented more evidence, the changes were made. I don't doubt that there are lots of things we believe as individuals and as a country today that will be demonstrated to be false in a decade or two. JOIN XOMBA IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO ADD!

"...what is true today will

"...what is true today will be true tomorrow." Not necessarily. Just like most opinions, the world is also always changing. What we consider true today will not always be true tomorrow. That is the nature of existence that most of us will never truly understand. Everything will not always be as it is right now, but that is not to say that all truths are relative. Who is Publius?
