Turkey Will Not Hold Back Invasion of Iraq Because of U.S. Concerns

Turkish officials have announced that they are running out of patience with Kurdish rebels based inside of Iraq. Turkey also made it very clear that the U.S. would not influence it's decision on whether or not they would invade the Kurds inside of Iraq.

The Kurds were valuable allies of the United States during the initial invasion to unseat Saddam Hussein and his lynch men. But; the fact of the matter is, the Kurds are ultimately for the Kurds. They had little choice but supporting the U.S.. They were constant targets of the Iraqi government during the Hussein reign.

Now the Kurdish insurgents forays into Turkey are threatening a new height of destabalization in that region. That is unfortunate because the Kurdish north in Iraq is currently the most stable region of the country.

"They (the U.S.) might wish that we do not carry out a cross-border offensive, but we make the decision on what we have to do," a Turkish official proclaimed.

The problem for the U.S., is that both Turkey and the Kurds have been valuable allies in the war on terror. Turkey has supported the U.S. in it's war in Afghanistan. The Kurds have supported the U.S. in Iraq. But; even though both are considered allies to U.S. efforts in the region, they certainly are not allies with one another.

It's time to see just how effective the Bush administration's diplomacy efforts really are. My guess is that they won't be effective enough.
