Twins

The up’s and downs of having twins.

Ok let me first explain why I decided to create an article on falling pregnant and having identical twins, well falling pregnant for most is a shock in itself, but can you just imagine going for your first scan and the midwife says ‘hmm I believe there are two little heartbeats going on in here!’ Well, for a lot it’s something they will never experience, but for those of us who do experience it, it can be the most wonderful and yet the most stressful thing in the world all at the same time!

So you’ve found out you’re having twins eh? Ok right from the offset your pregnancy becomes something of great interest to all around you, family, friends, doctors and even your dog will start to irritate you, forget the once in every six months scan; when you find out your having twins those scans double and if your having identical twins they turn into once every two weeks, tough going eh. Plodding or waddling into get a scan when all you really want to do is go to sleep!

And so following all the stress of those first few months, comes the birth, now let me tell you, people will start to frighten you and stress you out even more! You will hear things such as oh you will need a ‘C’ section or it will take twice as long to give birth, well I’m here to tell you non of these are true, I had a normal birth using just gas and air and both my daughters were out within eight minuets of each other! Now granted this does not always happen but then again neither does a ‘C’ section!

So your beautiful babies have arrived, here are a few things being the proud parents of twins you will have to get use to.

People will stop you in the street and stare.
People will point.
People will ask are they twins? (And this will start to annoy you!)
People will ask is it two girls, or two boys? even though you have dressed the girls in pink and the boys in blue just so people don’t ask!
People will say “Oh look two twins” and you will think well you don’t get one or three twins do you.

These are just a few things I’m afraid we have to get use to. All the attention is nice, and does start off nice, however after getting up every three hours for the first couple of months and tending to both babies, the last thing you really want to do is stop and chat!

One of the best things I learnt through all of this was to try and not stress, stress uses up more energy, which you do not have much of in the first place.

Enjoy your babies for yourself and try to not get to irritable!
