Two- faced House Guest: American Media Repeatedly attempts to Discredit China

Four years have passed, beckoning the nations of the world to return to the Olympic stage once again, this time in Beijing, China, in the arenas and stadiums of tomorrow. Renewed showdowns in all the sports and games we care to keep count in can luckily take the place of politics due to economic and imperial competition, and as the preferred talk of the day, they are calmly allowed to take a back seat to the hope of victory for the best athletes in the Universe. What is even more impressive is the world watches in scrutiny as a welcoming host takes on the gargantuan task of catering to the numerous cultures and identities of the planet in attempts of making a memorable impression in the global conscience, to seal their own identity for some time to come. Herein it seems all the grudges and strifes of the political past get brushed under the carpet to be nipped in the butt for a little while so that no one has to get too bent out of shape from their country's possible political vendetta with another, and as such their athletes can stay in shape in attempts to win it over on the athletic fields instead. This is sort of the unspoken way of maintaining a smooth guest- host relationship amongst Olympiads, keeping competition in focus.
The athletes accept a good stay with courtesy and are more overcome with the gravity of the level of competition than any political grudges anyway. With such grace being paid homage to from visiting country's athletes, coaches, ambassadors, and similarly by the host nation (which is the smartest way to duck any international tension or unnecessary agitation), or even more so because of the overt effort the likes of which is unparalleled by any host nation's efforts in providing for visiting nations during past Olympics, you would think that a guest would naturally come to be quite modest in response to the immense hospitality that they are receiving. China who has even provided all visiting nations (including the US) with their own spot of home in the foreign land equipped with the most customized accommodations to make the experience as least culturally shocking as possible, has no vendetta to carry out on the athle
tes, and this can be spoken for on behalf of the athetes as well, because they seem to be quite pleased, or at least they are never questioned about it as they shouldn't be made to worry about any potential moral discretions in their Olympic participation in China.
Still though, from thousands of miles away, in walks the American media who has less concern for visiting grace then their own petty controversies for which they may exploit a few more minutes of air time, and they can create the arbitray concerns about China for which maybe the American civilization can come out smelling a little better afterall. Before the games even started, the scatterbrained American media tuned in and out of Tibetan struggles for independence. Does our nation maintain such a moral high ground having to do with invading other countries that is has to critique another? No, but it is something to talk about and it might make America continue to smell like a rose, which up to this point has only served to distract us from our own nation's short comings. And whilst the Olympics proceed, there are issues of a little girl lip synching, underage girls on the gymnastics squad, and lets not forget how many times we have to hear about the grueling training regiment of children whose futures have been predetermined in athletic competition. Well the point is, even if you find it to be so, what gives the American Media the right to be so nit picky and fault seeking of others? Are we the one exemplary power in the world, or can only one empire be the self- declared moral authority whilst all others must be vanquished from the world scene? No matter what our media reports they must represent the American imperial interest as well, tooting its own horn by attempting to point out all of China's faults, and so regardless of the records, the medal count, the victories and prestige that the athletes of our country earn, it isn't enough to do the talking, and so the mainstream media feels it has to supplement or rather suffocate the accomplishments of our Olympiads. For this reason it continues to attempt to discredit China from any possible angle, and this has only been the tip of the iceberg as the proponents of media- propaganda must deal with the latest power from the east that threatens our hegemony on and off the field.
