U.S. Soldiers Admit to Executing Four Iraqi Prisoners in Baghdad Last Year
posted August 28, 2008 - 1:21am It was reported by The New York Times that two Soldiers made sworn statements describing the killings of four blindfolded and handcuffed Iraqi detainees in March or April of 2007.
Sergeant First Class (SFC) Joseph P. Mayo a Platoon Sergeant and Sergeant (SGT) Michael P. Leahy Jr., a Squad Leader and Medic made sworn statements to Army Investigators in January each describing how they executed Iraqi detainees after their First Sergeant, 1SG John E. Hatley killed two others by shooting them in the back of the head with a pistol and directed them both to do the same.
Leahy said that the First Sergeant made the call to take the detainees to a canal and kill them as retribution for the deaths of two Soldiers in the unit.
