Understanding simple machines - the inclined plane

An inclined plane is a slanted object such as a ramp used to raise an object from one level to another. This method involves moving the object a greater distance but it uses less effort than lifting the item straight up. Heavy objects can go up a ramp more easily by sliding or dragging them.

A simple machine helps make work easier. It can also make it easier to move objects. They use energy to work and have few orno moving parts.

The five most simple machines are the wheel, the pulley, the inclined plane, the lever and the wedge .
