understanding simple machines - the wedge

A simple machine helps make work easier. It can also make it easier to move objects. They use energy to work and have few orno moving parts.

A wedge is used to push two objects apart, and is made up of two inclined planes that meet at an angle and form a sharp edge. This sharp edge is used to split things apart.

Forks, axes and knives are all examples of wedges.

The five most simple machines are the wheel, the pulley, the inclined plane, the lever and the wedge .
