Understanding the Game of Cricket
posted November 20, 2007 - 2:05pmI have noticed a good many posts here on Xomba regarding cricket matches. I understand a little about the game, but there are many things I do not. Since I don't have any friends who can school me on the basics, I decided to do a little research for my own edification.
I'll be the first to admit that I do not know it well enough to break it down in layman's terms and answer questions, here are two of the websites I researched to understand the game:
How to Watch a Cricket Match
How to Understand Cricket Statistics
The underlying theme to all of my research is that the best way to learn is to observe. Read the rules to get a basic understanding, watch a match, re-read the rules, wash, rinse, repeat. The beauty of Xomba is that so many matches are posted to watch online that you can do everything with your butt in a chair in front of your computer.
If you are feeling particularly ambitious, you can find a cricket club near you and watch the matches in person. The United States of America Cricket Association (USACA) has a website that you can use to find a club near you. (I am not trying to slight our English and Commonwealth friends, but cricket is already wildly popular in your countries, so explaining cricket is probably unnecessary.)
Cricket is a very fascinating sport and not really that complicated once you have down the basics.
