United 93 and my thoughts on Terrorism

United 93 and Terrorism
Well everyone,
I just finished watching United 93, the story of the one plane hijacked on September 11th 2001 that did not reach its targeted destination
and after managing to control the shaking and the nausea and tears I experienced while watching, I knew I had to sit down and write this post.
Terrorism should never be tolerated. I believe that whatever measures are necessary to prevent it or head it off at the pass should be taken and not be complained about by any us who feel it may infringe on some preconceived rights we have or cause us an inconvenience. What I witnessed in this extraordinary accounting (and I recommend you all rent and watch it) made me think more than I ever have before on this subject.
We are lucky to have had the freedom we have had for so long without this sort of thing happening but its not the first time we've been attacked on our own soil. Think of December 7th, 1941 when Japan, thinking our attention would be elsewhere (and it was, with world war II overseas in Europe) and that it would be the best possible time to strike the U.S., sent their military aircraft carriers just close enough to us and launched their kamikaze Japanese Zeros to bomb almost our entire Naval fleet sitting calmly in the waters of Pearl Harbor. Most of the naval personell, men and women, still rest inside the carriers they died in at the bottom of that harbor.
The reason why terrorists succeeded then and again in 2001 is because we have become quite arrogant as a nation and believe no one would dare try to cause destruction and chaos on American soil. We have been lax by allowing our attention to be drawn into the affairs of so many other countries besides our own that our homeland security failed to protect our innocent, law abiding, tax paying and God fearing citizens. We, as a nation, failed ourselves.
So with this posting, I invite everyone to review your personal beliefs, your ideas on the subject, any suggestions that are viable and would offer better protection in our transportations systems and everyday commutes. I wholeheartedly encourage each and everyone of you to write to your President, Congressman, even media persons of high caliber and share your thoughts, plans or again, ideas ; even vent your frustrations at our government, who generally do a very good job, to maybe pay a little more attention to the homefront in the hope and prayer that this will not happen again. (please consider having an answer of some sort to whatever problem you vent on before letting loose your tirade). Should we close our borders? Is it time maybe to stop being the welcome mat to every immigrant even though that is what this country was built on? Should more stringent methods be in place to screen anyone applying or attempting to come into America by a visa? Something like FBI, CIA or Interpol background and fingerprinting? Should we run a country wide screen on those already in the U.S. on a visa and deport anyone with suspicion? I ask for your thoughts and suggestions but please direct them to the president, congress or CNN. They are the ones who can do something about it all but only with your insistance.
I want to also say that know matter what your religious, political or personal beliefs, that I personally respect your right to hold to them and even if I may not agree, as long as your beliefs are not personally physically harmful to those around you. The key being not to harm others. Respect generates on many levels and in order for us to be able to somehow improve the decline that the world seems to be in these last many years, we are all going to have to learn to respect everyones right to live, know matter their belief system.
I am sending a prayer out to all my friends on my page to be safe, happy, healthy and whole. Please share this with others and pass the word around to the millions of wonderful human beings inhabiting myspace to be involved in the world around them. Help where you can, if only to offer a kind word, if nothing else.
My love to all of you, Michele
