United 93 and my thoughts on Terrorism

I posted this bulletin on my myspace but felt I should share it here in Xomba with all of you too.

United 93 and Terrorism
Well everyone,
I just finished watching United 93, the story of the one plane hijacked on September 11th 2001 that did not reach its targeted destination and after managing to control the shaking and the nausea and tears I experienced while watching, I knew I had to sit down and write this post.

Terrorism should never be tolerated. I believe that whatever measures are necessary to prevent it or head it off at the pass should be taken and not be complained about by any us who feel it may infringe on some preconceived rights we have or cause us an inconvenience. What I witnessed in this extraordinary accounting (and I recommend you all rent and watch it) made me think more than I ever have before on this subject.

We are lucky to have had the freedom we have had for so long without this sort of thing happening but its not the first time we've been attacked on our own soil. Think of December 7th, 1941 when Japan, thinking our attention would be elsewhere (and it was, with world war II overseas in Europe) and that it would be the best possible time to strike the U.S., sent their military aircraft carriers just close enough to us and launched their kamikaze Japanese Zeros to bomb almost our entire Naval fleet sitting calmly in the waters of Pearl Harbor. Most of the naval personell, men and women, still rest inside the carriers they died in at the bottom of that harbor.

The reason why terrorists succeeded then and again in 2001 is because we have become quite arrogant as a nation and believe no one would dare try to cause destruction and chaos on American soil. We have been lax by allowing our attention to be drawn into the affairs of so many other countries besides our own that our homeland security failed to protect our innocent, law abiding, tax paying and God fearing citizens. We, as a nation, failed ourselves.

So with this posting, I invite everyone to review your personal beliefs, your ideas on the subject, any suggestions that are viable and would offer better protection in our transportations systems and everyday commutes. I wholeheartedly encourage each and everyone of you to write to your President, Congressman, even media persons of high caliber and share your thoughts, plans or again, ideas ; even vent your frustrations at our government, who generally do a very good job, to maybe pay a little more attention to the homefront in the hope and prayer that this will not happen again. (please consider having an answer of some sort to whatever problem you vent on before letting loose your tirade). Should we close our borders? Is it time maybe to stop being the welcome mat to every immigrant even though that is what this country was built on? Should more stringent methods be in place to screen anyone applying or attempting to come into America by a visa? Something like FBI, CIA or Interpol background and fingerprinting? Should we run a country wide screen on those already in the U.S. on a visa and deport anyone with suspicion? I ask for your thoughts and suggestions but please direct them to the president, congress or CNN. They are the ones who can do something about it all but only with your insistance.

I want to also say that know matter what your religious, political or personal beliefs, that I personally respect your right to hold to them and even if I may not agree, as long as your beliefs are not personally physically harmful to those around you. The key being not to harm others. Respect generates on many levels and in order for us to be able to somehow improve the decline that the world seems to be in these last many years, we are all going to have to learn to respect everyones right to live, know matter their belief system.

I am sending a prayer out to all my friends on my page to be safe, happy, healthy and whole. Please share this with others and pass the word around to the millions of wonderful human beings inhabiting myspace to be involved in the world around them. Help where you can, if only to offer a kind word, if nothing else.

My love to all of you, Michele

I agree with you, Michele. I

I agree with you, Michele. I think one point in your post stood out above the rest: when you complain about something, be ready with some answers. People on all sides of this issue need to understand that point. They may be right about something being wrong. Still though, even a wrong solution has to be replaced with a right one or at least, one that is less wrong. http://www.xomba.com/user/thewonderer

terrorism

Having watched with incomprehension and mounting anger, the dance and joy in the Middle East on 9/11, America has to know that there are people on this planet almost 15% of them who are brainwashed into believing that everything the West stands for is evil. The sad thing is that you have allowed these people into your country without hinderance, allowed them to walk around your towns with their women imprisoned from head to toe in black chador, allowed them to rave and rant against the West in your own country because you thought they respected the right of free speech - they don't respect your views or your right to say them. My country has been rocked by fundamental terrorists for more than 30 years, every bearded thug from Morocco to Pakistan found a way to enter India. More than 300,000 innocent people have died at their hands - no one in the world has said a word. Your immigration & customs people have to be better educated. They hardly know the difference between somebody from the Middle East and a Thai and usually it will be the Thai ,a non-violent buddhist, who will be singled out for questioning!!!They should know how to read names and know the backgrounds from the names. They must know the languages. America is no longer an island far from the killing fields of the Middle East. So know your enemy, know his language, know the way he thinks. Then only can you make your country safe. And because you allowed uncontrolled immigration, you have sown the seeds for future homegrown terrorism, just as in Britain where it is the Pakistanis born and brought up in England who are trying to be suicide bombers. This can happen in your country too because you have allowed your immigrants to remain in their own ghettos (created by them)practising their own rituals which are against your culture.Try at least to bring their children into your mainstream. Learn from our mistakes. My country allowed uncontrolled influx from the Middle East from 11th century onwards because at that time India was the land of the golden goose!!! A few centuries later we had to partition our country, have die hard terrorists right on our borders and amongst us. You are making the same mistake we did. People who do not read other people's histories and learn are condemned to repeat those mistakes.
