University Offers Online Flirting Course
posted January 11, 2009 - 5:24amEven the most quirky of computer nerds can learn to flirt with finesse thanks to a new "flirting course" being offered to budding IT engineers at Potsdam University, south of Berlin.
The 440 students enrolled in the master's degree course will learn how to write flirtatious text messages and emails, impress people at parties and cope with rejection.
Philip von Senftleben, an author and radio presenter who will teach the course, summed up his job as teaching how to "get someone else's heart beating fast while yours stays calm."

Note that students are not getting a masters degree just for flirting online! It is part of a social skills module for IT students, but even so, interesting to see the inclusion of online flirting as an addition to the traditional skills of networking and being interviewed.
However, are students going to put these skills into practice in the real (or rather virtual) world? Should people be warned that dating websites are going to be swamped with Potsdam students trying out their chat-up lines? Is flirting really a useful skill in getting a job, as opposed to landing a date?
Actually, online dating is incredibly easy... but that's another story!
