U.S. Capitol Labor Day Concert: Free to the Public

Labor Day just wouldn’t be the same without the spectacular concert on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol that is hosted by talented musicians every year. One of the best parts about the concert is the fact that the admission is free!

Our nation celebrates Labor Day as a holiday to honor workers all across the nation. The concert is both relaxing and inspirational. Workers from every race, religion, and socio-economic status come together to listen to the inspirational music that unites families, communities, and businesses alike. This special holiday event explores the cultural and historical reason why laborers across the nation work so hard to make America a thriving county with purpose and distinction.

When and Where?

The Labor Day concert is held in Washington D.C. on Sunday, September 6th, and the gates to the lawn open at 5 p.m. The concert itself commences at 8 p.m., so be sure to allow plenty of time to get a good seat. This festival of music is conducted on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, and this year, the program honors the 200th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth. In case of poor weather conditions, the concert will be relocated at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. The closest metro locations are at Union Station and Capitol South. This grand Labor Day concert begins the season of performing arts in our nation’s capital. Once again, admission is free, so come and enjoy a night of music and entertainment for the whole family this Labor Day holiday.

What to Expect?

There will be large crowds of people coming to experience the sights and sounds in this Labor Day celebration. This yearly musical tribute is conducted by NSO Associated Conductor, Emil de Cou, and will include Copland’s Lincoln Portrait in celebration of our late President Lincoln. If you need any additional information on the Labor Day concert held at the U.S. Capitol, don’t hesitate to call the NSO Summer Concert Hotline at 202-416-8113. If you are driving, please allow plenty of time to find a good parking place.

Why Should I Go?

What better place to celebrate the United States Labor Day holiday than in the nation’s capital. Washington D.C. provides the perfect environment for this musical extravaganza that is both historical and inspirational. People of all walks of life come to enjoy the rich cultural Labor Day experience.
