US Drops Plan to Force Diplomats to Iraq

Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and the senior staff at the State Department have breathed a sigh of relief as the final positions for the diplomatic staff of the US Embassy in Iraq were filled by volunteers. The alternative, already contentious are resisted vocally by Foreign Service staff, would have been to give selected staff an ultimatum of go or get fired.
Apparently, even diplomats know that being in Iraq--George Bush's "Mission Accomplished" notwithstanding--is still dangerous. Some even likened it to a death sentence.
Interesting, career suits working for George Bush have the option of not going, but the danger they fear is because of George Bush's and Condoleeza Rice's failure to pursue diplomatic means to avoid any military actions.
