Charlie Davies, striker for the United States World Cup national soccer team , was seriously injured in a car accident. He was a passenger in the car. The other passenger 22 year old Ashley Roberta died in the crash, which occured on 13 October on the George Washington Parkway.

He sustained facial, elbow and leg injuries and a ruptured bladder. Recovery is expected to take six months to a year. He will not likely be able to play for the US team in the World Cup in 2010. The games will take place in South Africa in June.
