US Marine Throws Puppy Off Cliff

A US marine in Iraq is seen on a YouTube video throwing a puppy off a cliff. This has now been seen by many and has caused major shock and fury and has brewed a storm of protests and comments on internet sites, such as Digg.

Some have identified the soldier as someone who has a profile and even a photograph of himself on webpages. Even his home address is known. The profile on some sites have now been deleted and one has been set to private.

The US Military authorities are now investigating the incident. Officials admit that the culprit Marine is believed to be a lance corporal who returned to Hawaii last October.

The authenticity of the tape obviously needs to be investigated. Some think it may be a fake. Others comment that the puppy might already be dead.

In the short video clip, the marine is seen grabbing the puppy by the neck, and what sounds like the puppy yelping can be heard as it is thrown over the cliff.

There have been previous incidents of animals being ill-treated or shot by US soldiers in Iraq.

He "allegedly" threw the puppy off the cliff

Does anyone have conclusive proof that the video is real and that it really was a live puppy that is seen being thrown over the cliff? If the answer to either question is "no", then you cannot say that a "US Marine Throws Puppy Off Cliff"--that is misleading. The fact that there is going to be an investigation into what really happened should show that there is some doubt as to what most people think happened. If it does bear out that the video is authentic, then I will agree that it was a senseless and cruel act on the part of the Marine. I will also go a step further and say that there is another story there and that is what kind of stress would cause an otherwise civilized person to visit that kind of cruelty on an innocent animal. For the latter, I would look at what kind of brainwashing training our troops undergo to believe that killing non-combatants is okay. Plus, if you consider the fact that some units in Iraq are on their third, fourth, or higher tours there, there must be astronomical levels of emotional and mental stress, which could very well play out by unspoken cruelty. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING
