Eighty percent of all Internet business owners make little or no money. There are a number of reasons for this. Many of them are involved with programs that make money for no one but the owners. They could have avoided this problem by doing some preliminary research.

Before starting any business, whether it is online or otherwise, do your research. Too many people get an idea, perform one Google search, and then sign up for the first program that they see. Many of them buy into losing programs at a cost of hundreds, or sometimes thousands of dollars. The failure to research an idea or program is one of the main reasons that people lose money with their Internet businesses. Doing one search is not enough.

There are hundreds of thousands of free articles available. Take advantage of them. They cost you nothing but your time. Do not just jump into a business with an open checkbook and pen in hand. This is a recipe for disaster. Spend time at the major ezines and search for articles related to your idea, product, or program. Print out the relevant articles and keep them in a file to review later.

Search for free ebooks. There are almost as many of these as there are articles. You can obtain a wealth of information from these free resources. As with the article, print out the relevant ones and place them in your research file.

Go to Wordtracker and determine how many online searches were performed for keywords related to your business. By doing a thorough search, you can satisfy yourself that a market exists, or more importantly, the competition is not too stiff. These are two factors that are vitally important.

Take your time; there is no need to rush. If it is a good business idea, it will work just as well a month from now as it will today. In addition to seeking out free ebooks, visit forums on related topics. Ask questions and look around. There are bound to be people who have done (or tried) the same idea (program) or a similar one. Use them as a resource. Most people are more than happy to help you out. The Internet community is a pretty friendly place. Just ask.

Of course, there are many other methods you can use to research an Internet business idea. But, by using the techniques listed above, you can save yourself a fortune. Or, you may discover that your idea is the best thing since the invention of the wheel. Whichever the case, your research didn’t cost you a dime.
