Valentine's Day: Roses or Rings

Valentine's Day: Roses or Rings

I am not against Valentine's Day or anything that goes along with it but when did it get this commercial? Seriously.
Are women becoming too expectant of gifts, and expensive ones at that, or are men just trying to hard to make us happy?

Are you a Rose giver or a Ring giver? To be honest, I would prefer a good morning kiss followed by a single rose. I don't need a dozen long stem roses or a diamond to know how much he cares.

Nobody should need flowers and jewelry to know their boyfriends or husbands love them.

If it is just something that you want to do because you feel that strongly about someone, I am not condemning you so don't get the wrong idea. But I have seen some extreme cases of flowers and jewelry and I just think the retail market is sick with greed over every holiday.

How often during a year's time do you see a commercial for a jewelry store. Christmas and Valentine's Day, right? Is that the only time we say I Love You with a diamond? Oh did I forget June, the almighty month of weddings.

I love a little romance as much as the next guy but I think it has gotten out of control. A card and a rose doesn't brake the bank and she still loves you. If you have to finance an item to say I love you, you may as well just buy her a car.

But Happy Valentines Day to you all!
I love Xomba. And I hope you all have a great holiday.

Thanksgiving

I think Thanksgiving encompasses all of it. Not in the "Pilgrims and Indians" sense, but in it's core meaning; Recognize those things that you have and people that you have in your life for which you are thankful. Valentine's is another day that should be practiced yearlong

I believe that Christmas, at least the important message parts, should be practiced all year long. So it is with Valentine's Day, too, for me. If you are a cheap, obnoxious S.O.B. to your significant other for 364 days of the year, no amount of debt you can possibly rack up on February 14th can make up for it. Actually, my wife told me after we got married that she would ask me why I spent the money if I got a dozen roses for her on V-day. I surprise her with a single long-stemmed rose here and there throughout the year, but she and I are more into getting potted plants since they can be put in the yard and continue to live once the holiday is past. I mean, our disdain for the commercialism is to the point where we have our dinner out for V-day on February 13th or 15th to avoid the crowds at our favorite Italian restaurant on the actual day. I agree

I think sometimes people buy big ticket items to make up for what isn't there. Love is happy and inspired by the little things.. handwritten notes, an unexpected flower, a soft kiss on the cheek...and so on!
