Vantage Point is a 2008 thriller film, written by Barry Levy and directed by Pete Travis. It stars Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, Forest Whitaker, Sigourney Weaver and William Hurt. It was released on February 22, 2008. The film was rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for sequences of intense violence and action, some disturbing images, and brief strong language.

Story line
Vantage Point is the story of eight strangers with eight different points of view each trying to piece together the truth behind an assassination attempt on the President of the United States. These eight people include Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox), Secret Service agents assigned to protect President Ashton (William Hurt) at an anti-terrorism summit in Salamanca, Spain. Also involved are Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker), an American tourist who thinks he’s captured the shooter on his camcorder while videotaping the event for his family back home, Enrique, a mysterious Spanish cop who is considered a major suspect in the assassination, and TV news producer Rex Brooks (Sigourney Weaver), relaying the historic event to millions of TV viewers across the globe. When a double of President Ashton is shot moments after stepping to the podium, chaos ensues. Terrorists attack the podium and the actual location of the President - who had earlier been moved to a safe location after his aides learn of a definite threat against the summit. Barnes must uncover the truth while facing his memories of a previous assassination attempt as well as betrayal from within the security detail. As they and others reveal their stories, the pieces of the puzzle fall into place.

My wife and I saw it last weekend...

I would say the biggest (and probably only) thing wrong with the movie was the fact that it rewinds the 23 minutes from the "big thing that happens" back to the start for each of the eight primary characters. After the second time, it got a bit much. My wife noted how jarring it was to watch the "big thing that happens" eight different times at movie theater volume. Having said that, the rewinds really helped set the stage for showing the interconnectedness of the underlying plot, i.e. the assassination attempt and what happened directly before and after it. While I probably would not see it again in the theater, I would recommend that anyone interested in seeing this movie do so in a walk-in theater to get a better feel for the scope of the Plaza Mayor in Salamanca, Spain and the overall cinematography. Like many movies of this genre, much is lost when played on one's television. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

Anybody seen this?

Interesting trailer, great cast, but the reviews have been mixed to negative. Anybody seen it?
