Veterans Day and Saving Private Ryan

The Americans around the world honored their war veterans on Sunday in Veterans Day celebrations. There were many events organized across the country and else where in the world.

Other than the last four Veterans Days, President Bush has spent this Veterans Day — his fifth since the invasion of Iraq — in Texas, at a ceremony for four Texans who died in Iraq.

Vice President Dick Cheney attended a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and former Secretary of State Colin Powell spoke to mourners gathered at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff spent the Veterans Day in Iraq.

Almost all TV and Radio Stations aired special programs in honor of the Veterans Day. Among all the programs TNT's back-to-back airing of Saving Private Ryan was the highlight. This Oscar winning (won 5 Oscars) masterwork from Steven Spielberg staring Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Vin Diesel and many others is based on a World War II drama where US soldiers try to save their comrade, paratrooper Private Ryan, who's stationed behind enemy lines. Saving Private Ryan is regarded as when not the best, one of the best War Movie Ever Made.
