Visit Christmas Markets in Germany on Cheap Ryanair Flights
posted November 8, 2009 - 3:29am
Cheap flights on low-cost airline Ryanair bring visitors to some of the best Christmas markets in Germany from London and other British and Irish airports. German Christmas markets (Weihnachtsmärkte) near airports used by Ryanair include amongst others Bremen, Hamburg, Lübeck, Trier,
and Basel (Switzerland). Frankfurt and Düsseldorf have great markets but are further away from the airports used by Ryanair than the airport names may suggest.
Visit Bremen Christmas Market on Cheap Flights on Ryanair
Low-cost airline Ryanair uses Bremen Airport (BRE) as its third hub in Germany. Cheap flights arrive here from many European airports including London-Stansted, Liverpool, and Edinburgh. For travelers on short breaks from the UK and England, Bremen is a great option as the airport is very close to the town – even taking a taxi is a budget option.
Visit Hamburg and Lübeck Christmas Markets on Cheap Flights on Ryanair
Lübeck-Blankensee Airport (LBC), or Hamburg (Luebeck) as low-cost airline Ryanair prefers to call it, has cheap flights from London-Stansted and Dublin. Although the airport is some distance from Hamburg, it is very close to Lübeck. Lübeck has one of the most beautiful old towns in Germany – it is on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list – with fantastic brick Gothic buildings and a very romantic Christmas market.
Christmas Markets near Low-Cost Airline Ryanair’s Hub at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport
Low-cost airline Ryanair has its main hub in Germany at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN), which is famous far from Frankfurt am Main. Ryanair has cheap flights to Frankfurt-Hahn from British airports including London-Stansted, Glasgow, Liverpool and Birmingham as well as Irish airports Dublin and Kerry.
The closest Christmas markets to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport are at the lovely Mosel River towns Bernkastel-Kues and Cochem but both require private cars. By bus, the Weihnachtsmarkt in historic Trier with its Roman monuments can be reached in less than an hour. Several further major Christmas markets including Koblenz, Mainz, and Wiesbaden are around an hour’s bus ride away. The huge market in Frankfurt am Main is a 90 minute bus ride from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport.
Visit Düsseldorf Christmas Market on Cheap Flights with Ryanair
Düsseldorf (Weeze) Airport (NRN) is like Frankfurt-Hahn Airport far from the city in the airport name. Ryanair has cheap flights to Düsseldorf (Weeze) from London-Stansted, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and Shannon. It is a good hour or more on the bus from Weeze to Düsseldorf itself, which has a large Christmas market in its old town.
German Christmas markets are popular with British travelers and fun to visit. Weihnachtsmärkte are generally open from end November to a few days before Christmas.
