Visit the World's Largest Aquarium in Atlanta

For any family planning a vacation to the city of Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium is a must see destination. The Georgia Aquarium is the world’s largest and offers families an underwater adventure.

The Georgia Aquarium features a massive eight million gallons of water that houses both fresh and marine life species. The aquarium can be divided into five exhibits: the Ocean Explorer, the Coldwater Quest, River Scout, Georgia Explorer, and Tropical Diver.

Ocean Explorer
Families planning a vacation will be amazed by this exhibit built specifically to house the largest fish species in the world: the whale shark. In addition to whale sharks the other creatures of the deep that prowl this tank are hammerhead sharks, sting rays, trevally jacks, giant goliath grouper. The exhibit was designed to give visitors an astounding view and when crossing through the underwater tunnel, visitors can imagine themselves scuba diving with these great fish.

Coldwater Quest
Beluga whales, sea lions, sea otters and penguins are just some of the coldwater creatures that occupy this exhibit. Visitors learn more about these unique animals and about the need for better conservation to preserve coldwater habitats.

River Scout
Animals from the rivers of Asia, Africa, South America as well as animals that are native to Georgia can be found in this freshwater exhibit. Learn about the importance or river environments, see playful otters and view (from a safe distance) the pointy teeth of river dwelling piranha.

Tropical Diver
This exhibit pays homage to the coral reef ecosystem. Eels, seahorses, jelly fish, and brightly colored reef fish may be found in this exhibit.

Georgia Explorer
The aquatic life that calls the Georgia seacoast home can be found here. View horseshoe crab, shrimp, sea stars and more. Learn about the whales that live off the Georgia coasts in the waters that are protected as a National Marine Sanctuary.

In addition to exhibits, visitors can see the 4D-Theater, get a bit to eat at Café Aquaria or just stock up on souvenirs at the gift shop.

The Georgia Aquarium is open Sunday through Friday from 10a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9a.m. to 6p.m.

The Georgia Aquarium is located at Centennial Olympic Park and is part of the Atlanta City Pass program which includes six other attractions. Another City Pass partner, The World of Coca Cola is also located at Centennial Olympic Park and the proximity and convenience location of these two attractions for a family vacation cannot be beat.

Getting There
Travelers to Atlanta fly into Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, the world’s busiest, and rent a car. From downtown Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium is located off Centennial Olympic Park Drive.

MARTA rail stops N1 and W1 are a 10 minute walk from the Georgia Aquarium.
