Vitamin D Deficiency Can Cause Depression

Lack of the 'sunshine vitamin', vitamin D, can cause depression. The findings of a Dutch study conducted on over 1,000 people discovered that depressed people have about 14% less vitamin D in their blood stream than non-depressed people.
Depressed people should load up on vitamin D to improve your mood. A little time spent in the sunshine each day helps your body create it's own vitamin D, and sunshine improves the mood and alleviates the symptoms of SAD-Seasonal Affective Disorder.
Vitamin D not only alleviates depression, vitamin D also improves your bone health. Adequate levels of vitamin D are vital for calcium absorption and bone health.
Vitamin D is not the only food that helps to improve your mood. Any foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids also works to dissipate depression and other mood disorders. Add some salmon, walnuts, scallops, flaxseed and cod liver oil to your diet along with vitamin D for a happier you.
