So many teeth whitening products are available now, both at your dentist’s office and over-the-counter. But which teeth whitening method is right for you?
Do you need an expensive laser treatment at your dentist’s office, or will a tube of whitening toothpaste do the trick, or possibly some teeth whitening method in between?
Let’s look at the different teeth whitening methods and find out which one is right for you.
Any tooth product that contains peroxide will whiten your teeth. The method used to apply the peroxide to your teeth will determine to what degree of whiteness the product will achieve.
A teeth whitening strip or a teeth whitening tray product will apply peroxide to your teeth and those products will lighten your teeth when used over a period of time. These type of teeth whitening over-the-counter products will work on both surface stains and some internal teeth stains.
A bleaching agent combined with laser at your dentist’s office is a quick and effective way to whiten teeth, both surface and internal teeth stains will be whitened with this type of treatment.
Both above mentioned teeth whitening methods have the risk of producing short term gum irritation and teeth sensitivity.
Non-bleaching products for teeth whitening like toothpastes will work over time remove surface stains. Whitening toothpastes won’t whiten internal tooth stains, but they won’t irritate your gums either.
Depending upon what caused the stains on your teeth and how sensitive your teeth and gums are and of course price, will determine which teeth whitening method is right for you.
If your teeth are just surfaced stained from coffee, tea or other beverages and food, an over-the-counter teeth whitening method will work for you.
If you have internal teeth stains caused from medications, aging or tooth damage, a visit to your dentist’s office for a laser teeth whitening treatment will work best for you.
