Washed Out Road Swallows Truck and Driver in Michigan

09-15-08. A Cass County Michigan man didn't make it to work on Monday.
As he slowly made his way down a flooded road, he drove his truck into a large section of the road that had collapsed from the heavy rains brought from the remnants of Hurricane Ike. What seemed in the morning darkness to just be water over the road was actually a giant water-filled hole where the road had been.
By the time he realized what had happened, the roof of his F-150 truck was level with the pavement of the road and the water was rising fast in the cab. His door was also jammed shut. He was able to wrench open the door with his foot and crawl out, only to fall into the water. He managed to get onto the pavement and call his wife for help.
He has a broken wrist and a cracked sternum, but says no amount of pain compares to the panic of those moments when he was trapped in the water-filled truck.
