Here is the cheapest and the funiest way to clean your old penny and make it shining just like a new one without any expenditure. Step by step with video it is expalined here with the material and the process involved with the penny cleaning.

The aim of this funny experience is to demonstrate a chemical reaction between acid and oxide.

Why at all you need to clean your penny. Ofcourse it will not make your penny to cent but definitely it will give you certain level of satisfaction. You will feel very happy and amuzing. The most beauty of this penny cleaning process that it does not required any expenditure. So you need not to give way your hard earned dollar to clean your penny.

Step One:

Collect the following materials listed here:-

1. One old penny (Or more if you like to clean)
2. One peace of lemon or some lemon juice
3. Some amount of salt

Step Two:

In a glass or you can take a glass jar if you are with the facility of a laboratory mix 2 tablespoon of lemon juice and one table spoon of salt. Mix both throughly untill the salt mix with the juice. You are ready now. Place a dirty old penny on the solution of salt and lemon juice. Make sure that the penny is completely immersed in the solution. Wait for few minutes and take out the penny from the glass jar. Rub it with some cotton cloth. It will be shining and glowing like a new penny.

What Happend:

It may be known to you that penny is made of copper and due to the chemical reaction with the atmospheric ingredients (oxygen or air) the old penny was dirty and looked dull and tarnished. Actually a layer of copper oxide was formed on the penny. Now we have made a weak hydrochloric acid (HCL) solution by mixing the salt and lemon juice. When the dirty penny reacts with the hydrocloric acid solution a chemical reaction take place and produce copper chloride and water. This makes the old penny free from copper oxide and it becomes like a new one.
