If you have never been the the location you are planning on traveling to, you might want to go through a travel agent. You can tell them your interests and things you want to do and they can customize your trip for you.

Booking online.
Sometimes booking a trip online can also have it's advantages. If you search around the internet you can sometimes find trips cheaper. An occasionally some of the places offer discounts or promotional codes. Just make sure it is a reputable site.

Bring the right clothes.
If you live in the cold and are going to a tropical island, you definitely don't want to bring the clothes that you normally wear. If that is the case, you should go shopping before the trip to get some cheaper clothes for your vacation. Because if you wait until you get there, it might cost a little more.
