Ways to prepare for a hurricane
Ways to prepare for a hurricane
Take pictures before you evacuate.
This is a must before a hurricane hits. This way if you have any damages on your house or your property, you can prove to your insurance that it is from the hurricane and not something else.
Leave early.
If you are pretty sure that there will be a mandatory evacuation, it may be in your best interest to go ahead and pack up and leave. Because if you leave whenever everyone else is trying to get out of town, it could take much longer to get to your destination.
Have a destination.
Don't just drive around and hope for the best. Have a family member or a friend that you can stay with. If there are none in the area, go ahead and call local hotels for reservations, so you will be insured to have somewhere to stay during this time.
Book a hotel early.
Many times if you wait, hotels for miles will be booked completely. It can be very frustrating to be driving and having no where to go. So before you leave the house at least have something booked just in case.
Take everything you will need for at least a week.
Depending on how bad it is, you will want to be prepared for a week if not more. Be sure to watch the news and other channels for recommendations during the hurricane.
Watch the news.
This way you will know what is happening in your community and know when you are able to go back. You don't want to evacuate and head back into town before the hurricane even gets there. So keep watching and listening to the news, that way you can stay informed.
