We Love Lucy, Ricky, Ethel, and, Fred

I Love Lucy was a sitcom that premiered in the 1950's and while it only lasted 9 seasons it is still on the air today. Why? It could certainly be argued that it wasn't true to life however it wasn't exactly a Brady Bunch either. Let's just say if people had found themselves in some of these fantastical situations the Ricardos and the Mertezes behaved as humans, not sugary sweet, like some other sitcoms.

The actors were exceptional. I think of course this may have been the real reason. Naturally of course the best of all Lucy, who didn't care what she looked like, but she still worked WITH the cast instead of trying to steal the spotlight.
Then of course the writers. Ms. Ball in fact when asked to give advice to young comics said "Get good writers".

Even though they divorced Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz are still my all-time favorite couple. There just seemed to be something between them. The kind of relationship where you don't have to say a word between the two of you. I'm sorry it ended, but most of us never have it so in that way they were fortunate. Although as humans I'm sure they didn't feel it. I know I wouldn't.
