Web Design - How to Publish a Countdown Counter on Your Web Page?
If you would like to create visitor awareness about an important upcoming event I’d recommend to use a Countdown Counter.
Such a counter tells your visitors how many days are left to your Big Event, like
“139 Days Left to Our Convention!” or
“This Sale Ends in 16 Days!” etc.
I’ve used the below script provided free of charge by JavaScript Kit (www.javascriptkit.com). It works nicely.
If you use this script, please keep the reference to the JavaScript Kit web site intact. I believe they deserve that much publicity in lieu of their generosity.
IMPORTANT WARNING: Always save a backup copy of your web site template before changing it. Things can and do go wrong once in a while during such updates. If such misfortune hits you unannounced, you can always upload the saved copy of your old template and restore your web site to its pre-existing condition.
Copy and Paste the script (please visit the URL at the bottom of this page) in its entirety in the Source Code Template of the web page where you want the countdown message to appear.
Since a lot of web sites are using Cascading Style Sheets these days, it’s going to take some experimenting before the countdown message appears in the correct spot. Try pasting it in different places in the code until it shows up in the exact desired location.
However, before you do that, you need to CUSTOMIZE your code with your own “event date” and “event message.”
Here is how you do it:
1) Enter the description of your important Special Event within the quotation marks following the var before= .
For example, I have entered “before our great Spring Sale ends on June 10, 2006!” because I want my countdown message to read “Only XXX days left before our great Spring Sale ends on June 10, 2006!”
Replace that text with your own proper message.
2) Enter the announcement that your visitors should read on the day of the Special Event within the quotation marks following the var current= .
For example, I have entered “Today is the LAST DAY of our great Spring Sale. HURRY!” because that’s what I want my visitors to read on June 10, 2006.
Replace that text with your own proper message.
3) Enter the date of the Special Event within paranthesis at countdown(xxxx,x,xx) .
For example I’ve entered countdown(2006,6,10) because my imaginery Spring Sale ends on 10 June 2006.
Enter your own appropriate date.
4) And you’re done! Congratulations. Copy, paste into the template, save your edited template, and enjoy!
