Web Design is a passion
posted July 7, 2009 - 6:36amWeb design is much more than thoughing a website together and saying you have done it. It’s about the passion of the work. It is the intention of the end result that drives the site, not the site itself. My customers don’t hire me for a website so that it can sit there. They want a site that will acomplish a goal. Weather it is making money or promoting a art, they want the end result.
The passion comes from the desire to succeed. No matter what angle you see your hobbie or business, the end result determines the value of the intention. I have been developing sites for the better part of 10 years and I have learned so much. At first it was about making a creation without thinking of the end result. Then I moved into the aspect of success. It is one thing to invest in something to have a presence, but your presence now has to have a purpose. If your intentions are to make money, then there are some things you really need to consider.
1. The look of the site must be based on the “end user”. If you know the type of people that will be viewing your site based on your products, then the site needs to “look” good for them and NOT you. What is going to get you the success. Find the themes and colors that your customers will most resinate with.
2. Consider the search engines. The engines can be tricky. They tend to look only at the text within your site. So it is important to know what your text is going to result to in the engines. Too much text that repeats is not a good thing. Now adays, the engines cross reference every single link to insure that what you have is relavent to the purpose of the site. Links that go out of your site are measured by how close that site is to yours. If you sell shoes, then linking to a stereo site will not help you. Try not to use the same words over and over again. The engines can see this and they don’t care for it. It is now becoming spam more that anything.
3. Be aware that it takes time. Unless you have big bucks to drop into ads, your site may takes months and months to get the kind of traffic that you wish to see. Just keep the intentions up and stay focused on that end result and you will succeed. Keep your energy where it’s going to bring you the most success. If your working on many different sites or sources of income, make sure that you keep track of each site. Take notes and work hard on staying up on each one.
4. The search engines love network sites. The network sites that draw the most traffic are facebook, myspace, twitter, stumbleupon, wordpress and blogs. If you make matching network sites that match your site as far and theme and content with links to and from, your site will experience much more targeted traffic and a higher volume of visitors.
