Welcome to College

posted September 2, 2009 - 6:29pm
Welcome to College

The following is an original poem, inspired by my new experiences with college life. Do not be mistaken, the poem does not depict the college experience, but a college experience. The poem reflects the anxiety, confusion, interaction, and enlightenment that I’ve experienced in such a short span of time. It really focuses on all the positive aspects college has to offer. Perhaps I have a biased perspective though, because I have yet to find any negative aspects on my campus. And for reasons of confidentiality, I will not be revealing the name of the university I am attending. In regards to the poem’s syntax: it consists of 20 lines of 10 stanzas of 10 sets of couplets in order to extend the lightheartedness and ebullience I feel in connection to my college experience thus far. Enjoy :)

Welcome to College

Welcome, hello, how are you?
Where am I going? And what should I do?

This way, that way, the way in between,
keeping up will require caffeine

New names, new faces collectively,
everyone’s greeted respectively

A clash of cultures; a melting pot,
of regions, and states, and countries: a lot

Friendships seem to form so fast,
every moment, made to last

Sunrise again? No time for sleep,
the talks we share: emotionally deep

Four years ago, so unknowing,
now our thoughts just keep on flowing

We survived a month and emerged intact,
no one expected the positive impact

Faster, faster, world is spinning,
change is coming, new beginnings

Welcome to laughter, joy, tears, and strife.
Welcome I guess, to college life.

I'm supposed to be graduating

I'm supposed to be graduating this December and this poem brought me back to freshman year of college when everything was so intimidating and scary, kind of like how its going to be right after I graduate! =P

Very enjoyable...

Great poem and expresses you well.  Thank you for sharing.
