Welcome to New Xomba - How to Upload Images
posted July 29, 2009 - 11:04pmWelcome to the New Xomba website. I have been requested by one of my good friends here on Xomba to write a guide on - How to Upload Images Using The New Text Box Editor and so I am attempting this byte. I say "attempting" because I would like to clarify that I am by no means an expert at this and DO NOT have complete knowledge about the process. But still I am able to upload images very easily, the only part that is a little difficult is the Formatting and Positioning of the image within the byte.
Now, it could be that the Text Box may be having some problems, which they had earlier with relation to the images, and that could be the reason why we are not able to format the pictures correctly.
As you all can see, this Text Box has a completely different way to upload images than the old version of Xomba, that we all had got used to. But this is still far better and more flexible and easier to use, I can assure you.
- How to Upload an Image
All you need to do is Click on the Picture Icon which is the Last button to your extreme right. A Box opens up pointing towards an image icon that appears inside the Text Box. There are two ways in which you can upload your images:
- From Your own Computer :- If you want to upload a picture from your own computer then click on the "Browse" button that is present right next to a rectangular box with upload written in front of it. Now you can select your folder from the computer and the picture that you want to upload and Press Open. The Image URL now appears in the Image URL space on top.
- From the Internet: Search for the Picture you would like to upload from the internet and copy paste the Image URL in the Image URL Box right at the Top and if you want to link to it then paste the URL in the box at the Bottom in front of Link URL. The image now appears in the text box.
If you want to give a description about the picture, you can do so in the box in front of "Description" and check the box "Open in a New Window". Now, you need to take the very important decision of WHERE to place the image.
- Formatting and Positioning The Image
Once you see the image in the text box, you can resize it to the correct size you want by just clicking on the image and dragging the corners of the picture inwards or outwards on all four sides depending upon whether you want to decrease the size or increase it, respectively. Once you have the correct size, you can then go to the next step, which is Formatting and Positioning the image.
For Positioning the image, there are four options given in front of "Text Flow", -
- Place the image on the left side with the text wrapped around it (as shown in the figure).
- Place the Image in the Centre between two paragraphs or lines with text wrapped above and below the image.
- Block the image in the centre of the page, anywhere.
- Place the image on the extreme right with text wrapped around it as shown in the figure.
Now carefully choose which option you would like and where you want your image to appear. Click on the Icon of the chosen option. For eg...

Here I have placed the image on the extreme left and decided to have text wrapped around it like this. Now your image is done. You can click on the Close window "X" on top of the Box.
You can also position an image without "Formatting" it by clicking on the image and choosing one of the options given in the "Text alignment" in the Tool Bar of the Text Editor. For eg, if you want your image to appear on the right of the page then click the "Right Align" Button. Its just that simple. This way your text will NOT wrap around the image and will flow in the normal manner. To adjust the space of the text wrapped around the Picture, increase the numbers in the option "Padding" given just below the Size option. You can increase or decrease the padding depending upon your individual preference. (I don't know if this feature is working very well in this Text editor at present). You also have the option to give a Border to the image.. Go to "Border" option and select the kind of border you would like. And you can even change the color of the border by clicking on the color palette given. Isn't this neat?

You can also Cut and Paste the picture wherever you want, in case you decide later on to change the position. For Eg, I have just Copied the above Picture and placed it below here. Now I have changed its alignment to the Right of the page with text wrapped around it. How to do this? Just Click on the picture and then click open the Image uploader and then select the "Right" align icon and close window. You can manually move the picture up or down to adjust its position.
Once you have everything sorted out you can close the window of the image uploader. Your image is ready. Like I said, you can still Resize, Reposition, and Reformat your Picture any time you want to by just clicking on the image and doing the needful.
Well, this is as far as my knowledge goes about uploading an image and formatting it. I have to warn you that once you have Clicked on any one of the "Formatting" options given in the image uploader, you will NOT be able to change that position manually. For eg, if you chose your picture to be on the Right side, then you will not be able to later change it to the Left side by just dragging it. You will have to Realign the Picture again (from personal experience), as mentioned above. However, if you have NOT chosen any of the "formatting" options from the image uploader then you have more flexibility in manually placing the picture wherever you want.
Update (1 September 2009): Since I posted this bye, the Text Editor has been changed to a new one and so tthe way to upload an image is slightly different now. Here is a video which shows you how to go about uploading an image into the page and formatting it. Take a look:
Well, easy isn't it? I hope that this byte has been of some help to you all. If you want to be a part of this Writer's Community on Xomba then you need to Register HERE to become a member, the registration is FREE.

The video could use some music hehe! And also cover the chipmunk voices at the end xD. Good video none the less! Did you fast forward the sound? What did you use to record this by the way?
Ok, Bug Report
The padding feature in the Text editor does not seem to be working at present. And even the "Border" feature is not working.
This comment is primarily to bring to the kind attention of Xomba Moderator / Xomba Admin. please take note.
Thanks for getting back the images, though.

Sorry, Unable to Upload Pictures as of NOW.
For some reason, Xomba is NOT allowing ANY images to be uploaded. I
tried all kinds. The image gets uploaded in the Editing and then disappears when I submit the Post. I am sure that it is a "Bug" that
they must be working on. That is the reason why I was thinking of
writing this byte when all the "Bugs" had been sorted out!
So any way, that's the way to go about it.
I
tried to upload a Picture from the "Wickimedia Commons" which is in the
public domain, yet this warning seems to appear for each and every
picture I try to Upload. I also tried my own photos...same message.
