welcome to beijing

july 8th ,2008 .It will be a nice day. Welcome to our country. We are friendly,we are looking forward you.
(BEIJING, August 2) -- From July until October of this year, 355 collections showcasing the art, calligraphy, design, fashion and heritage of people from all over China (including Taiwan, Macao and Hong Kong) will be exhibited in Beijing. Many rare, never before seen artifacts will now be available for all to view, allowing everybody to experience a "Culture Olympics" as well as the traditional sports-centered Games.

Recently, artifacts from all over the country have been arriving in Beijing. These include gold ornaments from the late Shang dynasty, brass plates from 9th century B.C., Emperor Qing Shihuang's famous terracotta warriors and horses and golden burial robes from the Han Dynasty.

According to Beijing's National Heritage Museum Director Ms. Liu Chaoying, normal museum guidelines state that Level 1 heritage artifacts must not take up over 20% of the museum exhibits. During the Olympics, however, this guideline has been relaxed, and this year's exhibition is the first in China's history.

In addition, during the Olympics and Paralympics, Beijing's various theaters have planned a full schedule of 2,153 performances. Concerts, gymnastics shows, musicals, plays and comedies will be played on 237 stages citywide. Old favorites, such as Return of the Phoenix, Teahouse, Thunderstorm, and The First House under the Sky will return to the stage this summer. Beijing's 67 movie theaters, along with the city's 315 traveling film carts and 1,026 free movie rooms will also show classic films.

After visiting Tiananmen Square, climbing the Great Wall, admiring the terracotta warriors and the Han Dynasty burial robes, English tourist Frank Lampard has fallen in love with Chinese history and culture.

Lampard says, "Before the Olympics, China was a myth to me, old and mysterious. But as I gradually came to understand China, I found that it had an overwhelmingly modern atmosphere."

Famous author Feng Ji comments, "The Beijing Olympics is an opportunity to enliven and showcase the beauty of Chinese culture. As an ancient Eastern nation, China must leave its unique cultural spirit onto the history of the Olympics for ages to come."
