Wellington Mara and the New York Giants
posted February 4, 2008 - 12:47amYou often hear professional athletes say that their teams are like a family, but in the case of the New York Giants, it's literally true. The Giants have been owned by the Mara family ever since the team began, and remain one of the last family-owned franchises in the NFL. And the most important figure throughout most of the history of the New York Giants has been Wellington Mara
Wellington Mara was involved with the team since his father named him a co-owner at age 14, and he was closely involved with the Giants until he died several years ago at age 89. His son John Mara is now a co-owner, along with members of the Tisch family, whose father was a businessman who bought into the Giants franchise 17 years ago.
This article talks about the legacy of Wellington Mara, one of the legendary figures in the history of the NFL.
