What can Digg do for us as a community...
posted September 18, 2006 - 3:35amSometimes you might think that it's not worth doing something like digg an article, any article whether it is your's or someone else's. It's a lot of work to click that little button and then write a brief summary of something. Not to mention you have to find an article that 'fits' with digg whether it's technology or gaming news or whatever.
Here's why you should:
Someone from here dugg my article on Generation Gamerz about the upcoming Wii game titles. It was a simple article that I didn't think much of at the time. It was just an alphabetical list of games and some opinions of mine.
The Digg was dugg so to speak. Currently it has 513 diggs on the article and is growing like a cartoon snowball rolling down a steep mountain.
Here are some other stats to show you how the most inocuous of articles can be a sudden, unexpected success:
Words in Article: 294
diggs (as of this moment): 513
Unique visitors to site today (so far): 7,820 :D
Continents represented: 6
(Antarctica is probably looking for'heating oil' and not 'Wii titles' heh.)
Average time spent on page: 1.9 minutes
Average time on site: 1-15 minutes
How was it done?
What made it special?
I don't know.
Someone said "it was a nice simple article and it was exactly what I was looking for, 5 days ago..."
So I think it was a combination of luck and information, perhaps with some good timing on my part since I posted it on a Sunday when gaming news is rather slow.
This is why we need to work together. This is how we build traffic to not only Xomba but to our specific articles. The more readers the more probability of making some money or of an opportunity coming along. This is why we need to be a community...
