What Does Elk Meat Taste Like?

I recently visited a wild game grill restaurant that featured a variety of game meats cooked by very talented cooks. Being an east coast city slicker, I had never had most of the meats on the menu and asked her what the different meats tasted like. According to her, elk is coarse, very similar to beef and not as gamey as deer.
