What Does FW Mean?

What Does FW Mean?

"FW" has meant many things over the years. For instance, during World War II, FW referred to any fighter aircraft designed and built by the Focke-Wulf company in Germany. To a Texan, FW might mean Fort Worth. And, to a South African, FW might refer to F.W. de Klerk, the Nobel Prize-winning former president.

In the Internet world, FW means that the e-mail was forwarded, meaning sent on to additional recipients known to the individual who received the original e-mail. Because of the wide proliferation of spam these days and the number of mindless, endless forwards, I submit that the acronym FW needs to be reassigned a different meaning to properly identify the sender.

FW should be an acronym incorporating a vulgar four-letter-word meaning "have intercourse" and the pejorative meaning of word for a less-than-intelligent person or "wit". So, whenever you receive an otherwise spam e-mail with an FW in the first part of the subject line, the sender is reminding you that only a FW would take the contents of the e-mail seriously and forward it on to other hapless recipients and that you should probably add that FW sender to your "blocked senders" list.

Spam

Thanks this is great information. No matter how many emails I mark spam, I still end up with spam in my inbox. That's annoying and I think I have gotten those with FW subject lines. The funny thing is, I have had one email address since I was 12 and I use it the most. So the spam on it keeps coming and coming to the point where it gets over thousands of emails.

I agree

I hate those fw emails they should just say Here's some nice spam for you. ↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Loved Your article...

Wow... my sentiments exactly! Now, I understand what the first letter would be called in the acronym "FW" but I'm not sure about the second letter. Could it be "wusp?" I'm probably wrong, but I thought I'd give it a guess (lol). Join Xomba

It did remind me of my own pet peeves...

The timing of your article coincided with my "replying all" with appropriate Snopes links to a few FW's that my brother likes to send even after I asked him not to include me when he does that. Because he is my brother, I can't block him without catching flack from the rest of my family, so I take the time to reply with corrections. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

I like your style of thinking

Not entirely sure if this is a "tip of the hat" to my article, but I do agree. The Forwards, massively sent bulletins, etc. are a pet peeve and in my opinion a plague upon the world that is the Wide Web. ~Corbs
